Both secure the awning against being blown away, but do not replace retracting it in the event of a storm warning. Awning storm strap or storm rope?

For Thule awnings in the 1200, 5, 6, 8 and 9 series, the Thule Hold Down Side Strap Kit storm tie-down is a suitable solution, as it attaches to the upper hinge points. Without a suitable attachment point or for a different model, a storm strap with ground anchoring may be the better choice. The key is that the solution fits your model and can be tightened evenly.

How long should a storm strap for an awning be?

The correct length depends on the distance between the attachment point on the awning and the anchoring point on the ground or vehicle. Measure this distance before purchasing and check the specifications of the respective product. A strap that is too short cannot be tightened properly, while one that is too long will sag and may flap in the wind.

Can an awning with a storm strap remain extended in strong winds?

A storm tie-down reduces the risk of the awning blowing up, but it is not a guarantee that it can be left extended during a storm. You should retract the awning in the event of a storm warning. Do not rely solely on accessories, but regularly check the tensioning, pegs and overall tension.
